Emergency Services Centre launch

This project actively involved staff, patients and public groups in the development of a new centre in April 2005, following the destruction of the A&E Department by arson in 2002. All interested parties fed into plans for the new facilities. Prior to opening, a publicity campaign provided staff and the local community with information about the centre in order to create public 'ownership'. Communications work included staff orientation exercises, internal communications initiatives, poster and leaflet campaign, press releases, open days and media tour and briefing.

Judge: Harry Cayton, Department of Health

Judge's Comment: This was an excellent approach to a particular problem. It was well executed.
