This one day course is aimed at junior press officers, marketing or communications assistants, or those wishing to pursue one of these roles. The focus will be on developing core skills with some practical exercises.

The playing field of public relations is not only complex, but constantly changing. If you are new to the industry this course provides a comprehensive insight into the demands faced by today’s PR professionals and the key elements of successful working practice.

The session will include:

 Media awareness; the current agenda  Knowing your audience – what to say, and what not to (including basic interview techniques)  Writing for your audience – key elements of concise writing for the public, including press releases and statements  Spotting a good story and building your contacts.  Press conferences, visits and photo-calls: the basics.  Legal jargon explained – the core points of FOI, copyright and libel.
