This one-day course will consist of presentations combined with interactive workshop-style sessions allowing participants to learn through discussion, tasks and case studies.

Speakers:   Julie Hollings, Director of Corporate Communications, Royal College of Physicians Qualifications: BA Honours Degree in Typography & Graphic Communication from Reading University, Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Julie has over 12 years of working in communications and public relations in local and central government – both in-house and as a consultant. Before joining the Royal College of Physicians in May 2006, she was a director at DTW Public Relations, specialising in strategic public relations, crisis management, health and central government communications. Clients ranged from individual health trusts to bodies such as the National Patients Safety Agency. During this time she spent several months at the Dept of Health as Interim Head of Communications Research, managing the Dept’s research into public, stakeholder and NHS staff opinion. Before joining DTW, she worked as Interim Director of Communications for the Independent Police Complaints Commission - launching the new national police complaints body. Julie was also Head of Communications at Haringey managing media relations during the Climbie Inquiry including joint communications with health and the police. She was responsible for launching Better Haringey, promoting the council’s £5mill environmental programme. Her work has been nationally recognised with awards from the Market Research Society and theC IPR Local Government Group. From 2001 – 2002 Julie was chair of SCUPRO ( the Society of County and Unitary PR Officers) now LGcomms. Previous posts have included senior communications posts at Hampshire County Council and Isle of Wight Council. She has also worked in the further education sector, as a journalist on the Southern Daily Echo and for ITV Publications.
